MARTIN MÁLEK

After graduating from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Glassmaking in Valašské Meziříčí (2009), where I acquired my technical and aesthetic foundations, I have become an artist with a disciplined, self-established painterly language. This language is a result of my personal practice, built upon drawing, an emphasis on detail, and a gradually formed, distinctive artistic signature.

Each painting features a unique structured frame, predominantly in gold tones, which is integrated directly into the canvas itself. This frame is not merely a decorative element, but a structure that lends the artwork a sense of luxury and depth. The combination of black and gold is central to my work, as it creates a powerful contrast and leaves the viewer with a lasting impression.

My work is at times a reflection of my personal approach to various themes within contemporary society. I want the viewer to perceive deeper ideas while maintaining space for their own interpretation. Furthermore, my individual pieces reflect a subtle inspiration from the Dark Baroque, alongside an intentional focus on the male body—an element that is often pushed into the background today. While female nudes are omnipresent, the powerful male element seems to be fading, despite its profound significance throughout history.

My art stands on a stable visual language that I have built over the years, which today forms the core of my work. I consciously work with contrast, figure, and structure as clearly defined elements. I do not strive for stylistic variability, but rather for a consistent mastery of form—ensuring that every painting carries a unified character and remains an integral part of my broader artistic concept.
