Klara Dolezalova

Klára is a painter based in Prague. She became intensively dedicated to painting in 2005, when she visited Denver on the invitation of the American painter Raj Chaudhuri and spent a month at his studio, studying alla prima oil painting and getting familiar with the American art scene. Since then, oil paints have become her main medium, mainly for their variability – from thin, dripping colour to thick paint, but also because they take longer to dry, thus offering time to change the painting. She often uses gold and silver leaf, creating irregular patches on top of her paintings, adding depth and bringing the works into life through the ever-changing reflections of light in them.

Klára´s primary focus is on portraiture, ranging from portraits of jazz singers and musicians in clubs, to intimate portraits of family members and friends. She is fascinated by capturing the likeness and character of an individual. As a counterbalance, she creates abstract art, which reflects her momentary feelings and serves as a “diary“ of her inner life. Recently, Klara has been painting florals a lot, seeing flowers as a kind of portraits of nature, an embodiment of beauty in motion. 

Klára’s artworks have been exhibited in Barcelona, New York, Prague, and this year her painting will be part of the MEAM Hall exhibition in Barcelona and Madrid. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America.
